Hazardous Locations

Hazardous locations are those locations where fire or explosion hazards may exist due to the presence of flammable liquids, vapors or gases, or combustible dusts or fibers.  This is for general information only.  See the National Electrical Code for complete details.

Class I Atmospheres (gas or vapors)

Class II Atmospheres (dust)

Class III Atmospheres (fibers)

Note: The National Electrical Code deals with electrical components only.  Mechanical components and accessories, if required, must be specified.  Depending on your application, it may be a good idea to specify spark resistant components on your hoist.  These components may include bronze hooks and trolley wheels, aluminum hand chain on geared trolley models and stainless wire rope.
